Just Like Heaven

with Reese Witherspoon as Elizabeth and Mark Ruffalo as David is the perfect "Let's see a movie together that won't irritate anyone" movie. Elizabeth is an ER doc just named the new Attending when she heads to older sis' place for a celebration dinner and to meet a guy (she's too busy to meet anyone on her own). Bright lights, and you know it, there's a crash. Don't confuse this with the Meg Ryan's flick City of Angels--the majority of Just Like Heaven and the real story happen after the crash.

Ruffalo's David is a landscape architect still morning the death of his wife two years prior. He rents Elizabeth's apartment and quickly learns that it comes with a roommate--Elizabeth’s spirit…or is it? She doesn't know who she is, what she did, but knows that David is taking up her space. He begins to think she's a ghost who can't cross over and needs his help; and she doesn't think she is (after all, ghosts surface when someone dies). Enough said. There's lots of laughs with a nice story to boot.

Red Eye

isn't for nervous flyers. Starring Rachael McAdams and Cillian Murphy, McAdams plays Lisa the hotel clerk you want to take care of you. She's seduced, then quasi-kidnapped on the plane by the creepy, creepy Murphy. Murphy is part of the hit team using McAdams character to get to a high government official and his family. Will certainly make you rethink what you carry on a plane with you. Suspense is there throughout until the very end--adrenalin keeps flowing.

Lord of War

starring (and narrated by as well) Nicolas Cage as Yuri Orlov--the ultimate global gun runner--and Ethan Hawke as an Interpol agent, is an action adventure story. Bring in the usual beautiful women, blood and fighting that criss-crosses the globe, you've got Lord of War, with Yuri as the Kingpin. Based on fact, the movie follows Yuri through his family, his upbringing, his dream of the perfect woman who just happens to be one of his classmates, the incredible amount of games that are used is the passing of weapons, the dealing with dictators and the hiding of who one is as he stays one step ahead of Hawke's character. It's tense, dark, brutal and there are laugh-out-loud parts. Cage will probably get an Oscar nomination.

Flight Plan

The crew is sympathetic to her plight…but claim that her daughter was never on board. The question--is the grieving widow nuts…or is their something sinister about? Kyle Pratt knows the rules and procedures that the Captain (Sean Bean) and crew including the Air Marshal (Peter Sarsgaard) are to follow when a passenger goes missing--real or not. It's a good ride--Foster carries the show and will most likely get an Oscar nomination.

Million Dollar Baby
with Hilary Swank, Clint Eastwood, and Morgan Freeman took the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Director…and it should have. Swank is Maggie, a hillbilly gal who wants to fight; Eastwood is Frankie, an at the end of his training days manager and trainer, who doesn’t train girls; and Freeman takes care of the gym, a promising fighter who lost his eye in a bout and the word of wisdom—he also narrates the film as he did in Shawshank redemption. This is an incredibly powerful film. No sex, light swearing, no nudity. Forewarning—it's not an everyone leaves happily ever after.

Pretty Woman 15th Anniversary

Gere is the dude with a ton of money who buys the services of Roberts, the beautiful hooker with a heart of gold and a tad rough around the edges. If you don’t own it, it’s a worthwhile addition to your collection. Who Should See It?—. 3 Golden Eggs
